Join us as we head out into the hustle and bustle of downtown Santiago, where we will unveil the city’s most renowned and defining sights. You’ll enjoy an engaging adventure through our sprawling green parks before diving into the city’s recent and painful political history surrounding General Pinochet’s notorious 1973 military coup. See the downtown sites that continue to have lasting effects on the Chilean people, including our spectacular cultural center. This tour provides you with fresh knowledge and unforgettable memories of Santiago.
Why take THIS tour, Why THIS tour with us? Santiago is struggling with pollution, so biking STGO is a greener and definitely more efficient way to enjoy the city. Ever since 2008, our sister company La Bicicleta Verde team has been perfecting our downtown bike tour, making sure that tomorrow’s tour is better than today’s. We have crafted the perfect cocktail of politics, landmarks and green areas. Our goal is to see sites unreachable by bus, share our personal experience of Chile’s culture and history with you, and teach you a bit of notoriously fun Chilean slang. Our guides are bilingual, love STGO, and do not deliver generic, scripted tours! We refuse to be that ‘Same Tour, Different City’ tour company. Our aim to make sure you opt for bike tours everywhere you go. We tell guide applicants to explain why they LOVE Santiago… if they can’t, we won’t interview them! If you’re still not convinced by this tour that’s ok, we got maaaad references. Check us out on tripadvisor.
Who should NOT take this tour? We made a list of 7 people who are not welcome. #5 says: “people who do not like dogs, tattoos, the color green or gay people because you will definitely hate what we do.” This tour tends to have 1-2 friendly stray dogs that follow the route. We talk about politics, social movements, and we can’t change the color of our bikes for this afternoon delight.

Ever since 2009 when Rolling Stone Magazine wrote up our city tours, our green team guides work hard to be the local person you met on your trip who had the most knowledge, cycle skill sets, and handsomest looks. Once everyone is kitted out, it’s GO TIME. This tour provides insider access to Santiago with an entertaining guide to experience the must-see landmarks.
2:30pm We pedal through the grand Providencia neighborhood while on a casual cruise. No need to take down your kick stand as Balmaceda and Bustamante parks are smooth riding. Our wheels pause for some discussions of the surrounding area and to enjoy some green life. By this point, the tour group should have a friendly dog that attaches itself to the tour as lovely guardian. PS: You’ll find out just why you see SO MANY people kissing and hugging in Santiago parks.
GABRIELA MISTRAL CULTURAL CENTRE
3:30pm Time to work up some sweat and head into the city roads, cycling through cobbled streets and smooth cycle paths. You’ll understand why Santiago’s voted South America’s most ‘cycle friendly city.’ We will visit Plaza Italia and the new Gabriela Mistral Cultural (GAM) centre. The rad-looking GAM centre sits in the hip Lastarria/Santa Lucia Neighborhood. GAM’s astounding architectural design is worth lots of pics. The neighborhood has funky bars to come back and visit as well.
4:30pm Together we will go-go-go see the Presidential Palace and discuss the 1973 military coup. Our guide will take you straight to the heart of Chilean civil society. They will discuss the history, architecture, and fascinating but sad stories. Fatema Mernissi was talking about this tour when she stated that “travel is about learning, about crossing boundaries and mastering the fear of strangers, about making the effort to understand other cultures and thereby empowering yourself.”
BACK TO THE BIKE BASE
5:15pm We will then head back to the bike base together. You can exchange pics, fill up your water bottle, and make use of our free wifi. Your green guru will hang around to chill and help with any questions you still have. We are here to the end to draw on your maps about places to go and help with other tour bookings... ride-on !!
